Meeting of NAAU representatives with experts of the project “European Union Water Initiative Plus for the Eastern Partnership”

October 19, 2017, a working meeting was held between NAAU representatives and the experts of the project “European Union Water Initiative Plus for the Eastern Partnership”, the representatives of Environment Agency Austria.

The project started in October 2016 and is being implemented by UNECE and OECD, together with a consortium of the EU Member States (Austria, France).

The overall objective of this project is to improve water resources management in the Eastern Partnership countries, especially in relation to transboundary rivers. More specifically, the challenge is to bring the water policy and strategies of the Eastern Partnership countries closer together with the EU Water Framework Directive, multilateral environmental agreements and the principles of integrated water resources management.

The project builds on the lessons learned from other regional projects supported by the EU in the countries of the Eastern Partnership, namely:

  • EUWI in the Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia;
  • Environmental Protection of International River Basins;
  • Improving Environmental Monitoring in the Black Sea

The project is implemented through an appropriate combination of expertise, capacity building, and the provision of equipment and technical support.

During the meeting a number of questions were discussed regarding the national accreditation system of Ukraine, in particular issues related to the process of accreditation of testing laboratories against

ISO/IEC 17025. NAAU representatives answered the experts’ questions and expressed their interest in accreditation of testing laboratories in the field of water resources management.
